Rate centres beyond St Thomas

One item on this list is unavailable and cannot be enabled by any plan or setting. They are limits of the +1‑340 numbering plan itself.
Why a new number will say Charlotte Amalie
Numbers in the 340 area code are issued from blocks assigned to specific carriers, each tied to a rate centre. The block we draw new numbers from sits in the Charlotte Amalie rate centre on St Thomas.
In practice a new number for a St Croix or St John office is still a St Thomas prefix. It rings on your desk exactly the same way, and nothing about the service differs. It is worth knowing before you print it on a sign — and it is the reason bringing an existing local number matters more here than in most places.
If you need a specific number, ask early
The 340 inventory available to us comes from a single prefix, so a block of consecutive numbers or a particular pattern is worth asking about before you plan around it. That is a real bound on supply rather than a scarcity tactic.
