Stage in a call · ENDPOINT

A working phone before any hardware arrives.

A new line can make and take calls from a browser tab the moment it is created. Desk phones are an addition, not a prerequisite, which is the difference between answering calls on Monday and answering them whenever the courier turns up.

What the call does

  1. inCall arrives
  2. step 1Web phone rings
  3. answeredAnswered in the browser
Web phone: Call arrives → Web phone rings → Answered in the browser.

Why this is the default endpoint

Waiting on a courier is a poor reason for a phone system not to work. The web phone means the order of operations is reversed: the service works first, and handsets arrive into a system that is already running.

What it does

The things a desk phone does, without the desk.

  • Make and take calls, hold, transfer, and conference
  • See who is calling and which number they dialled
  • Voicemail with playback in the browser
  • Queue login and logout for agents

Honest about the network

Browser calling is only as good as the connection underneath it. The call quality dashboard exists because we would rather show you jitter and packet loss on a specific call than tell you the service is fine.

Two modes

Simple by default, detailed when you ask

Most people never open the second column. It is one click away rather than spread across the first.

Simple mode

  • Sign in and the phone works — no SIP credentials to copy anywhere
  • A microphone and speaker check before the first call

Advanced mode

  • Choosing a specific input or output device
  • Codec preference where a constrained connection needs it

Where web phone stops

  • The web phone needs a modern browser with microphone access. It will not run on a locked-down kiosk browser.
  • A mobile application is planned but is not part of the first release.
