A +1-284 number gives a BVI business a local front door, and the whole wiTech Voice system sits behind it. What a 284 number can do is narrower than a 340 one, because of how the numbering plan is held — so this page says exactly which parts apply.

Two things the 284 plan does not carry

There is no number portability in +1‑284, in either direction, and no text messaging. Neither is a plan limit we can lift and neither is arriving later — the numbering plan itself does not carry them.

  • Inbound voice numbers

    Available

    We supply +1-284 numbers that receive calls and route them into your call flow, with every attendant, group and queue feature behind them.

  • Outbound calling

    Available

    Lines at a BVI site place outbound calls normally. Presenting a +1-284 number as outbound caller ID is being set up; until it is, outbound calls present another number on your account.

  • Enhanced 911

    Available

    Enhanced 911 is part of the service and is provisioned from the registered service address on the line, the same as anywhere else on the platform. It is not tied to which number the line answers.

  • Number porting

    Not available

    The +1-284 numbering plan has no portability, in either direction. An existing BVI number cannot move to us and one we supply cannot move away, so plan on a new number and a changeover.

  • SMS and MMS

    Not available

    Text messaging, person-to-person and application-to-person, is not carried on +1-284.

  • Inbound fax

    Not available

    Fax to a +1-284 number is not supported.

Why the BVI works differently from the USVI

Numbering in +1‑284 is held by operators licensed in the British Virgin Islands. There is no wholesale or competitive carrier of the kind that makes flexible number supply routine elsewhere in the North American numbering plan, and a single rate centre covers the whole territory.

So what we supply in the BVI comes through a wholesale provider reselling inbound reach into that numbering. Their documentation is explicit about what is not carried, and we have reproduced those limits above rather than calling them “coming soon”.

What a BVI number is good for

Local presence. A customer in Road Town dials a local number and the call lands in your call flow — greeting, menu, ring group, queue, voicemail — exactly as a number from anywhere else on the platform would.

Your team meanwhile works on the same system as everyone else: browser phone, desk phones, recording, dashboards, enhanced 911. The narrowness is in what the 284 number itself carries, not in the phone system behind it.

If a 284 number is not the right answer

Some businesses will read this page and conclude that a 284 number does not do what they need. That is a reasonable conclusion and we would rather you reach it here than after signing something.
